Abstract

The persistence of industrial organic pollutants in the environment presents a critical challenge to ecological and public health. Biodegradation using indigenous or engineered microbial consortia offers a sustainable and cost-effective alternative to conventional physicochemical remediation methods. This study provides a comprehensive characterization of environmental microbial consortia involved in the degradation of organic pollutants commonly associated with industrial waste, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, chlorinated compounds, dyes, and phenolics. Employing metagenomic and functional profiling approaches, this work identifies taxonomic structures, metabolic capabilities, and synergistic interactions within microbial communities sampled from contaminated soils and effluents.
